Moonbeam: Through A Fog Pick from russian Moonbeam duo’s amazing ‘Around The World’ album. This duo is producing on a very wide range from deep techno to big room trance. The album has some 4-5 very strong tracks with ‘Through A Fog’ being my fave one. They are not “biggest tracks of the night” but have a very unique sound and focus always firmly on the groove.
Tilt: The World Doesn’t Know (Proff Remix) Nice update of Tilt’s classic ‘The World Doesn’t Know’ takes the track nicely to 2010s while staying true to the original which IMHO is one of Andy Moor’s finest moments. Proff remix is taken from rock solid Lost Language Exhibition Century compilation featuring “Past” and “Present” discs including some of LL’s past classics in original and remixed form.
Shiloh: Chords (Ryeland Allison’s Ryebot remix) The original version of ‘Chords’ was one of 2009’s best prog trance / melodic prog house cuts. Ryeland Allison’s Ryebot remix is a nice fresh take on it even if it doesn’t quite get to the magical hights of the original. Is it only me or is there something truly amazing in that lead melody? I’ve had it running in my mind for days quite a few times.
Leama & Moor: Everything Matters (Michael Badal Remix) Another pick from that Lost Language compilation which I can warmly recommend. This time Michael Badal does amazing job in taking Leama & Moor’s ‘Everything Matters’ into 2010 prog trance groove. Love the vocal sample and the Matthew Dekay remix is stil stunning in all it’s 10+ minute glory…
BT: Flaming June 2010 (Jaytech & James Grant Mix) This is probably the most impossible track to remix and make it better. Jaytech and James have done a nice job creating a warm up / prog trance groover which teases with the original melody and parts, has a heavy bassline and sublime two minute breakdown. Nothing beats the original (or even comes close) but this does justice to it in a nice way.
Way Out West: Ultraviolet Oh well… this was included to the mix to pay homage to Way Out West’s live gig in Helsinki which obviously never happened. Such a shame as I was very much looking forward to it. ‘Ultraviolet’ is the hidden gem of the latest WOW album. Classic Jody Wisternoff sound which suits many different sets and situations but didn’t get the attention it IMHO deserved when the album came out.
David West: Gura (Inkfish Remix) Scandinavians know their prog house/trance!
Norwegian Infish duo updates Stockholms fave prog trance producer David West’s already massive ‘Gura’ into even bigger room prog anthem. It’s been a pleasure to see how David West has moved from trance into credible techno during the past 2-3 years while still keeping that own and recognizable production sound. Mark of a great talent for sure. And after working with him in a studio for a day (that’s how long we spent on God’s Garden!) I can say he is truly a genius who still has plenty of unleashed potential…
Faithless: Not Going Home (Eric Prydz Remix) Prydz’s biggest remix so far? It’s so fresh to hear Prydz showing the way to many trance producers with his hypno-techno-trance anthems. This version is destined to big things and actually after hearing ‘Not Going Home’ and ‘Sun To Me’ and genuinely looking forward to their album to-be-released in May. It was a brave move to leave the major label world behind and do-it-all-yourself. It’s been also quite a unique approach to first commision and release lots of remixes and after that release the album when people are already familiar with the melodies. Hope the album delivers!
Serge Devant: Wanderer feat. Hadley (Jerome Ism-Ae Remix) Jerome must be THE most played producer in Radio Unity shows and why not when there are every month couple bass heavy bad ass prog monsters to choose from..? Just like Prydz, Isma-ae has a very hypnotic and groove-based approach even to the more melodic material. Avoiding pop like structures and focusing on repetition retains the credibility even when including big melodies. Winning formula it seems.
Ali Wilson: Pandora Ali Wilson has been doing great tech influenced trancey tracks for years and perhaps just been waiting to make it REALLY big. I think Pandora is the track which will be big through-out the summer and break him properly into the A-list of producers and DJs. This was definitely one of the personal highlights from my last weekend’s set at Labyrinth//Laserpoint event in Helsinki. Reminds me from Filterheadz ‘Yimanya’ in a great way - Summer 2010 here we come!
