Way Out West: We Love Machine First heard this when Nick Warren was playing at our Jack club in Helsinki. This track oozes summer and good vibes yet keeps it cool and quality high without any cheesy elements. Old school meets future school. I highly recommend the whole album. Not necesserily on the level of their first album but 9/10 effort never the less.
Way Out West: Future Perfect The finest cut from the album in my opinion. Soooo emotional yet groovy as hell. Sounds laidback at home but from proper sound system with proper crowd lifts the whole room into another level. Especially when the main lead melody kicks in the break. The track is only 125 bpm yet very danceable. This could be even in my annual top 10 maybe? Funny detail is the recycling of the “Killah…” sample:)
Shiloh: Chords I’ve always been fan of Shiloh’s melodic progressive house but I must say that this could be their finest moment? Melancholic vibes are perfect at least for the finnish dark autumn moments. And the hook was going in my head for days after the first listening. Damn earworms!
Faithless: You’re The Sun To Me Faithless are working on a new album which should be out early next year. This is the first taster from it: ‘You’re The Sun To Me’. I first heard this at Ministry of Sound where I was DJing together with Sister Bliss who tried quite a few forthcoming Faithless tracks. Sounds like they are returning back to their roots (=rocking club stuff) after couple more mellow albums. Nothing against the mellow stuff thougth as I think Faithless are one of the few artists who’s album manage to nicely combine the chilled and dancey stuff.
Btw, one of this year’s best chill out tracks comes from Faithless producer Rollo (with his All Thieves project): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjmgjS9CPA8&fmt=18
Allende: Cold and Broken Finnish producer Allende must have the most plays in Radio Unity so far and is definitely one of my current favorite producers. His tracks are always filled with emotion and nice atmospherics yet still focusing in having a solid and groovy basslines. Also the attention to detail is remarkable so you can hear the tracks weren’t knocked together in a day. Cold and Brokens lead and chords somehow remind me of PvD’s old material. In a good way that is:)
Tastexperience - Hydewood (Beetseekers remix) Another piece of finnish trance. Beetseekers has lot of same vibe as Allende yet with a slightly more atmospheric touch. Here he remixes Tastexperience who’ve been around for a looong time. ‘Tantrix’ is maybe my alltime fave track from them alongside ‘Summersault’. I wanted to play this already in last month’s show but just couldn’t fit it in mixing wise. Well… a good tracks doesn’t get old in a month:)
Super8 & Tab: Irufushi This month’s fourth finnish track comes from the Anjuna power duo Janne & Miika aka Super8 & Tab. I’m usually not so much into the very typical uplifting trance (nothing against it though!) but somehow these guys seem to nail it for me too. They have catchy riffs and also nowadays super funly basslines. Btw, remember to check out “Scandinavia In The Mix 003″ on October 30th on Afterhours.fm featuring myself, Super8 & Tab, Mike Shiver, Daniel Kandi, Marcus Schössow, Airbase, Kimito Lopez: http://www.ah.fm/events/Afterhours.FM%20Scandinavia%20In%20The%20Mix%20003%2030-10-2009.jpg
Sander van Doorn: Bastillon Sander surprised me big time with ‘Bastillon’ as this is much more emotional and melodic than usually. This track reminds me lot about the old PUSH tracks. Packed with energy and the breakdown is very very nice. Perfect for big venues and big moments:)
